The garden of Vestry House Museum has been restored/reconstructed to give the atmosphere of the original Victorian workhouse garden for Borough of Waltham Forest.
It provides an educational display of both museum artifacts and of plant varieties imported to Waltham Forest.
The garden is divided into Flower; Herb and Vegetable Gardens using a timber arch structure. Each garden is centered on a museum artefact or sitting platform and has a formal layout with clipped box hedges. The vegetable garden is both productive and ornamental.
A performance area is created in a courtyard using a sunken Amphitheatre and overhead climbers. To the rear of the grounds there is a Butterfly Garden with display board and a play garden for school children. The project was Heritage Lottery funded.
