An urban/landscape design of three town squares in South London.
Philip Cave Associates won a competition to design the squares for Bromley Council as part of the Crystal Palace SRB. The public participated in the proposal through street stalls and exhibitions, and it has since won a Civic Trust Award and a Bromley Council design award.
Penge Triangle is centred on a clock shelter with a glass canopy based on the Pterodactyl wings from nearby Crystal Palace.
A large pedestrian space has been created in front of shops and cafes with areas for outdoor sitting.
A line of globe head trees and blue defining line in the paving creates movement and the light paving and stainless steel creates a contemporary ambience.
